Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine, a Philadelphia native is a native of Philadelphia, and was raised in the city. Her mother Pam was a back-up singer with Philadelphia International Records. Her father gave her the job of curator for the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She along with her family moved into the landmark. She is a 2005 graduate of Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in which she was an instructor of vocal music. Sullivan began singing in the children's chorus as a contralto, before joining the adult chorus just a few years after that. Sullivan received little exposure to secular music. She relates that she was 11 when someone was requesting her to sing for solos at the church. However, she was not enough yet to be ready. "Then McDonald's offered a competition to children from major cities. It gave me the chance to sing Accept God's Will on Showtime Apollo. My audiences were extremely enthusiastic." The singer performed along with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday at the age of thirteen. Sullivan was signed initially to Jive Records at the age fifteen. In the age group of 15 She was signed by Jive Records. The label recorded an entire album there however it was never released. Sullivan was later dropped from the label. The singer maintained a relationship with Missy Elliott and produced several tracks on her debut album, including the buzz single "Backstabbers" which was produced by Timbaland and composed by Elliott.
